Our Ethos and the Environment

At Hector & Queen we are passionate about doing our bit for the environment. We recognise the importance of managing and minimising waste, whether creating our handmade Tree House bunk bed, our Log Cabin wardrobe or Treasure chest of drawers. This ethos is put into practice at the very outset of production, where specific timbers and sizes are used, so minimising waste and having a positive effect on our rain forests.

All timber stocks sourced for Hector & Queen’s products come from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forests and are covered by a valid Chain of Custody certificate.

Using a FSC Certified supplier means that the timbers used come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations. It ensures that the forest or origin has been independently inspected and evaluated according to strict social, environmental and economic principles and criteria as agreed by the FSC.

Forest management can be environmentally appropriate and socially beneficial but it can also be environmentally and socially damaging. Our environmental policy recognises the responsibility of Hector & Queen as a consumer of forest products, to ensure that we have a neutral or positive effect on the world’s forests.

We are very proud to be able to say that all our furniture is handcrafted locally by highly skilled craftsmen unlike much mass produced furniture which is manufactured and shipped for long distances at a considerable cost to our environment. Even our bespoke mattress is made within 60 miles of our offices, from organic fair-trade 220 thread count cotton.

Hector & Queen uses a minimum of plastic based packaging, preferring to use blanket wrap or pallet/cardboard/paper made from 100% post-consumer waste whenever possible.
